Debugging BSNL Modem

Long time since I blogged....

Here is the thing about BSNL Modem. There are two possible situations where you might find that you cant connect to the internet.

1. You find that the 'DSL' LED is blinking and not glowing constantly. The 'DSL' LED is supposed to glow constantly.

Solution: Check if the adapter is plugged in properly. Check for loose contact. If this doesn't work, take it to an electronics shop and check whether it is damaged. The thing is, modems provided by BSNL are very sensitive. A small fluctuation in voltage will get your internet connection disconnected.

2. You find the the DSL light is glowing but the 'internet' LED is not glowing at all. The 'internet' light is supposed to blink.

Solution: Try calling a number. You don't need to talk to anyone. Just call someone and cut the line(Preferably, call your cell phone so that you don't disturb anyone). Most of the time, this will get you connected to the internet. I am not sure of the technical details, but I think that the call clears the frequency.
